Preserve court
integrity: judge

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A Regional Trial Court judge has emphasized the need to preserve and maintain the integrity of the courts as the impeachment trial of the highest magistrate of the country ended its seventh day yesterday.

RTC Branch 34 Judge Rosendo Bandal Jr. said that once the image of the judiciary is destroyed or eroded, it is government that will suffer most, because people will go to the streets, or to the mountains and take the law into their own hands.

“It becomes funny if you are observing the proceedings, and it would appear that the prosecution is not only unprepared but lack the necessary skills to counter the expertise of the defense lawyers,” Bandal said.

'Understanding of truce
process needed’

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Quintos-Deles emphasized the need for stakeholders to have a deeper understanding of the peace process so they will not be “easily swayed” amid issues, a press release from her office said.

Deles spoke during the Bishops-Businessmen's Conference for Human Development held recently at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in U.N. Avenue, Manila.

She was joined by Marvic Leonen, Government of the Philippines panel chair for talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, and Jurgette Honculada, panel member for talks with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front of the Philippines.
