Rear Admiral Edmund Tan, the newly appointed Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard,  is a Sillimanian who followed  in the footsteps of his late father in the Philippine Military Academy, a press release from the Silliman  University in Dumaguete City said.

Tan, who was installed by President Benigno  Aquino III on January 24,   is the first PCG Commandant from Dumaguete and Negros Oriental.

Tan acquired  the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration in Silliman in 1976, and received class and college honors.

His late father was the late Capt. Crescencio  Tan Sr.

His eldest brother, Judge Crescencio Tan, Jr.,  who is the national president of the Silliman Alumni Association, Inc. and holds the military rank of Major, said  his brother was a member of the Alpha Sigma Rho fraternity on campus, the press release added.*
