on mandatory helmet use

The Philippine National Police in Negros Oriental has again  yielded to the calls of political leaders and the public, particularly in Dumaguete, not to enforce Republic Act 10054, or the mandatory helmet law, because of public opposition to the measure.

 PNP deputy provincial director Supt. Alet Virtucio, said at the public forum on the mandatory helmet law Wednesday, that the police will not apprehend  violators of the law on the wearing of helmets by motorcycle drivers and riders until the middle of this year.

 This was after city officials noted a six-month prescribed period under the Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 10054.

ABAP to discover
potential boxers

The Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines hopes to discover potential boxers from the Visayas to join the national pool competitions.

Executive director Ed Picson, of ABAP, said, that he believes Visayan provinces have fresh talents in boxing that need to be developed so ABAP is going to the provinces, not only in the Visayas, but all over the country.

Picson attended the Visayas boxing championship for ages 15 to 18 years old, hosted by Dumaguete City participated in by nine boxing teams from the cities of Mandaue, Cebu, Tagbilaran in Bohol, Bago ang Bacolod in Negros Occidental, Northern Samar,  Leyte province, Tanawan, Leyte and two teams from Dumaguete City.

Arnis grandmasters
to write IRR’s

Arnis grandmasters all over the country invited to the crafting of the Implementing Rules and  Regulations of the Arnis law before its full implementation in April this year.

Arnis law author Rep. Pryde Henry Teves, Negros Oriental 3rd Dist.  said the crafting of the IRR will on February 10, in Makati sponsored by ex-Sen. Miguel Zubiri and himself.

Teves said this is in line with the promotion of arnis as a national martial arts sports.  The sports will be introduced in all schools nationwide, he added.
