Azkals’ Greatwich boosts
Talisay football program

Talisay City’s sports development program got a boost yesterday with the visit of Simon Greatwich, midfielder of the Philippine men’s football team, Azkals.

Greatwich assisted Mayor Eric Saratan in distributing shirts to members of the different barangay-based football clubs in the city and joined a 7-a-side match with the mayor playing on the opposing side.

Saratan said Talisay is strengthening its grassroots program in football and they have already given trainings to coaches who will be fielded to the schools and the barangays.

SJI bows to Cagayan,
in SBP Nat’l tourney

St. John’s Institute ended its campaign in the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas National Junior Championship by bowing to Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori from Cagayan de Oro, 112-116, in yesterday’s semifinals in Baguio City.

Leland Dusaban led the Falcons’ scorers with 32 points, as he carried the scoring cudgels after SJI main man Kirell Brahndon Montalbo got injured early in the game.

It was a high-scoring game as the Falcons matched CDO’s run and gun game and booked a 31-29 lead in the first quarter.

Powerade survives Game 4,
David as Conference MVP

Powerade Tigers lived to see another day as it poured everything they got into last night’s Game Four against Talk N Text to get a way with a two-point win, 99-97, to stay alive in the best-of-seven finals of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The thrilling ending to the game that saw both squads chasing each other down the court without letup, was a fitting tribute to Powerade’s heart and soul Gary David, who was earlier named Best Player of the Conference.

David played 42 minutes and scored 35 points, but it was Anthony Sean who stepped up and played a vital role in last night’s win as he delivered 19 points, including seven field goals out of 10 attempts.
