Strafing in Sagay denied
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The police yesterday debunked reports on the alleged strafing incident in Brgy. Lopez Jaena in Sagay City.

Chief Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez, Sagay police chief, said he deployed policemen in the barangay, in response to the claims of several persons occupying portion of a disputed area in Brgy. Lopez Jaena, that they had received threats.

Karapatan –Negros has claimed that members of its fact-finding team were strafed by alleged members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade yesterday in Brgy. Lopez Jaena, Sagay City. It also alleged that the police did not enter the area.

Gutierrez said a complaint of threats, had prompted him to dispatch policemen to the area. But there was no incident of alleged strafing, he added.

Gutierrez challenged leaders of the militant group to identify, and file cases against those who had threatened them.

RPA-ABB spokesman Victorino Sumulong also vehemently denied claims that their members harassed and allegedly strafed members of the National Federation of Sugarcane Workers, who occupied a private property in the area.

Sumulong said members of the NFSW figured in a shoot-out with its members six months ago, because of disagreement that was blamed by Karapatan on RPA-ABB members.*GPB
