Army not giving up on
local peace talks

Maj. Gen. Jose Mabanta Jr., commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, Saturday said he has not given up on his call for localized peace dialogs with the regional leaders of the New People’s Army in Negros and Panay.

Mabanta said he has briefed Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. on his call for local peace dialogs with the NPA “because we want peace for everyone and for development to seep in unhampered”.

Col. Oscar Lactao, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said “this will give local government officials and Negrenses a respite from violence and killings”.moremoremore

MURCIA – Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. Saturday again called on the New People’s Army to end their armed struggle and join him in the battle against poverty.

The governor issued the call at the 26th founding anniversary of the 303rd Infantry Brigade at Camp Major Nelson Gerona here, where he was all praises for the military unit.

Marañon described the 303rd IB, headed by Col. Oscar Lactao, as a “very disciplined unit (of the Philippine Army) that has done so much (for Negrenses) without fanfare.”moremoremore

Mambukal expansion

Mambukal Resort, the biggest earner among the economic enterprises of the Negros Occidental provincial government, will undergo further expansion to meet its growing number of tourists, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Saturday.

He announced the plan after the inauguration of a new P6 million sulfur dipping pool, designed by a leading Japanese landscaper, and seven new villas with four rooms each worth P27.3 million.

The dipping pool or Japanese ofuro was planned, designed and built with the help of Japanese landscaper Kouchi Yamaguchi, as well as Masaki Honda, Terou Yamaguchi and the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement represented by Shigemi Watanabe in Negros, the governor said.moremoremore
