Toyota guns for
5th win tonight

Toyota-Bacolod hopes to claim its fifth straight win tonight and keep its record unblemished as the squad clashes against Boston Finance in the first game of the 1st PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University gym.

Fresh from a 84-76 win against Akasya Grill Friday night, Toyota will once again rely on their shooters, among them Jojo Patias and Bernard Suante, who led Toyota scorers against Akasya.

Downed by nine points at the half, 39-30, Suante nailed 17 points in the third as Toyota staged a 29-13 quarter run, to put his team on top at the end of the period, 59-52. Vince Lacson also played a good inside game with six points.

Putting on some excellent defense, Toyota prevented Akasya scorers from getting some decent shots, although Japhet Cua managed to get in nine points for his team.

In the payoff period, both clubs played a close game as they tallied 26-24 at the end of the quarter in favor of Toyota.

Rico Cabatu sunk 10 points of his total 16, as Jojo Patias added 8 of his total 20-point output to anchor Toyota’s final run.

Former PBA standout 6’7 Mark Ong had 7 points in the fourth quarter as teammate 6-footer Hanz Schulze and Edward Castellano had 4 points apiece for Akasya.

Akasya was on top back in the opening quarter, 25-18, on Castellano’s 10 points and Christer Isulat’s 7 points, while Patias lifted Toyota with 12 points.

But both teams were not productive in the second quarter with Akasya converting only 14 points while Toyota scored 12 points.

Patias topscored Toyota with 20 points as Suante backstopped him with 17 points, all in the third period, while Cabatu had 16, and Lacson and Philip Abong with 6 points apiece.

Meanwhile, in the other match, TJ Construction booked a back-to-back win after routing winless Angels Burger, 88-73.

TJ played a consistent offense in the entire game to keep the Angels at bay.

Ramonito Gazan had 14 points in the final quarter as he led TJ to a 33-22 run.

Gazan paced TJ with 18 points while Ruel Morales hit 14, Junior Pelingon with 11, Boboy Berueda with 10, Yobin Vingco with 9 and Essho Garcia had 8 points.

On the other hand, Kenneth Robante led Angels in losing effort with 13 points, Gabriel Canopin with 12, Dail Dan with 10, and Ronald Repillo and Gab Layasan with 8 points each.*
