City gov’t to distribute
school supplies soon

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia recently signed the purchase order for the schools supplies project that will benefit public elementary school children in Bacolod City.

Leonardia said they expect to distribute the school supplies and school bags within two weeks.

Sunrise Marketing was determined to have the lowest financial bid for the project during the bidding conducted by the Bids and Awards Committee last month.

The approved budget for the contract (ABC) is P11.8 million.

Sunrise Marketing presented a bid offer of P11.7 million during the pre-bid conference, while Hardy Marketing was disqualified based on the eligibility requirement so its bid was not opened by the BAC.

Grades 1 to 4 students will avail of school bags and school supplies consisting of a ruler, notebooks, pencil, ballpen and eraser, while Grades 5 to 6 students will receive T-shirts.

There are about 41,963 public elementary students who will receive school bags and school supplies and 18,271 who will receive T-shirts.

Meanwhile, the opening of bids for the construction of the 3-storey Education and Training Center School building at the Reclamation Area in Bacolod City is scheduled tomorrow.

Only Wilkinson Construction and HJL Construction were able to obtain bid documents during the pre-bid conference on June 21, 2012.

The ETCS IV will be constructed on the city’s 2 –hectare property at the Reclamation Area, under the 50/50 scheme of the Department of Education.

Bacolod City is the first local government to have availed of the project where DepEd and the city will share 50/50 in the cost of the school’s construction.

The approved budget for the contract of ETCS IV is about P24 million.

The memorandum of agreement for the construction of the project was signed by Education Secretary Armin Luistro and Mayor Evelio Leonardia at the DepEd main office on February 9, 2012.*CGS
