SRA sets seminars

The Sugar Regulatory Administration will again conduct a series of sugarcane farm management seminars at the La Granja Agricultural Research and Extension Center, La Granja, La Carlota City, to improve efficiency and enhance sustainability in sugarcane production, Maria Regina Martin, SRA Administrator, said in a press release from the agency.

The seminars are in preparation for the full reduction of tariff rate by 2015, and in response to the unstable price of sugar in the domestic market.

The three-day seminar series will focus on cost reduction measures, weed and fertilizer management, new high yielding varieties of sugarcane, pests and diseases, mitigation on the adverse effect of climate change, muscovado processing, and a practicum on management of plant and ratoon crops.

The seminars will run once a month for four months during the off-milling season with the first batch of training set July 10 to 12.

Interested participants may call SRA-Bacolod Office at phone nos. 708-0662 or 433-6887, or SRA-La Granja Office at 702-9031, 702-9020 and 702-9028.

Training fee is P3,500 per participant, which will cover expenses for meals and snacks, training materials, t-shirts and air-conditioned accommodation at Balay OPSI dormitory, La Granja, La Carlota City, the press release said.*
