Man shot dead
in Guihulngan

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Policemen are looking for more leads in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old resident of Sitio Lumorang, Barangay Hinakpan in Guihulngan City, Negros Occidental, at about 4 a.m. on Saturday.

Police identified the fatality as Arnel Encontro Flores, 23, single, who sustained three gunshot wounds in his body. The victim’s mother, Marina Flores, discovered her son already dead the following morning.

A postmortem examination was conducted by the City Health Office of Guihulngan and the police continued their investigation to determine the motive and identity of the suspect/s in the death of Flores.

In Siaton, the police arrested a suspected coordinator of the illegal version of the numbers game “swertres” recently.

A team from the Siaton PNP, led by police chief, Insp. Cresente Gurrea, and members of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, swooped down on the house of Maribeth Palarpalar at Crossing Tayak in Siaton, by virtue of a search warrant issued by Presiding Judge Neciforo Enot of the Regional Trial Court Branch 44.

Gurrea said Maribeth was not in the house during the raid, but her husband, Primo Palarpalar, 28, who worked for her in the “swertres” operations, was arrested.

Policemen seized 17 tally sheets, a calculator, notebook, logbook, mimeographing paper and other supplies believed used in the illegal numbers game at the Palarpalar’s residence, police records show.

The husband is now in police custody and charges for violation of Republic Act 9287 or the law on illegal numbers game will be filed against him.*JFP
