Local heads urged anew
to establish meat shops

The demand for fresh meat in the local market prompted the creation of Negros First Meat Shops in all local government units that aims to give quality meat to local consumers and reduce the influx of imported supply, Dr. Renante Decena, Negros Occidental provincial veterinarian, said yesterday.

Decena said he encourages LGUs to start and mobilize their own meat shops to help local hog raisers market and sell their products. Consumers are also assured of quality and safe meat that are butchered and inspected in accredited slaughters houses, he said.

Hog raisers will also develop unity, social responsibility, and local enterprise that enable them to address the demand for meat and meat products, Decena added.

Don Salvador Benedicto recently launched its mobile meat shop managed and supervised by its Asosasyon sang Magbababoy sang Don Salvador Benedicto and Barangay Agricultural Aide-Paravet Association, while Murica will launch its commercial meat shops on Friday, Decena said.

He also urged members of the Alliance of Hog Raisers Association of Negros Occidental to plan out the establishment of meat shops in their LGUs to support the campaign of the PVO to reduce the entry of imported meat and meat products.

The establishment of meat shops will teach hog raisers to become small and medium entrepreneurs supplying the needs and demands of their local market and help them improve their income and sales, Decena added. *LTG
