DTI food tech seminar set Friday

The Department of Trade and Industry, in partnership with the Association of Negros Occidental Food Processors Inc. and the Industrial Technology Development Institute, will hold a seminar/consultancy on Food Additives, Preservatives and Spices at the Planta Hotel, Bacolod City from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, a DTI press release said.

The processed food sector identified programs and activities that will facilitate the promotion and development of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in the sector in November last year.

MSME producers particularly cited the need for the knowledge on the nature and importance of preservatives, spices and additives that are used in the formulation and preparation of food products.

The DTI seminar will focus on preparation of food, integrating preservation, safety principles or protocols and safe usage of food additives.

Through a combination of lectures, case studies, and workshops, attendees will learn the importance of ensuring quality, safety and regulatory compliance, the press release said.

This course aims to inculcate food safety awareness and appropriate preservation techniques including use of food additives and proper usage among food handlers and processors, it added.

Participation fee is P1,000 that would cover the cost of meals (lunch and 2 snacks), training hand-outs and certificate will be charged for each participant.

Those interested may contact DTI Account Officer Romel Amihan on or before Thursday at telephone nos. 433-0250, 704-2203 or 434-7920 for confirmation of attendance, the press release said.*
