100-day countdown to
Year of Faith starts

BY NIDA BUENAFE

Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra yesterday called on the faithful to strengthen their faith and join in the “Year of the Faith 100-Day Countdown” activities initiated by the San Sebastian Cathedral Parish.

In a concelebrated mass at the Cathedral last night, the bishop encouraged everyone to attend the lecture series at the San Sebastian Rectory every Thursday, starting tomorrow, until October 4,where different speakers will givetalks on the 12 Articles of the Apostle’s Creed.

Through these lectures, Navarra said the waning faith of some members of the Church can be rekindled.

Also during the mass, San Sebastian Cathedral rector Msgr. Felix Pasquin, stressed the need for everyone to nurture their faith.

“When you lose money, you lost something. When you lose a friend, you lost more. When you lose your faith, you lost everything,” Pasquin said.

He said the diocese is initiating the 100-Day Countdown for the Year of the Faith since in every Filipino event, the preparation stage is just as exciting as the celebration itself.

Reiterating the bishop’s invitation to the series of lectures at the St. John Mary Vianney Hall of the San Sebastian Rectory, Pasquin said the talk every Thursday is open to all Catholics and no registration fee will be collected.

Meanwhile, Fr. Deo Camon, parochial vicar at the Cathedral said the Year of the Faith countdown aims to raise awareness among the faithful in the diocese and seeks to enrich the understanding of the faith amidst the threats of secularism.

Delivering the homily in yesterday’s concelebrated mass, Fr. Camon shared his insights on the life of St. Thomas the Apostle, who despite being called the doubting Thomas, manifested his faith with conviction when he affirmed without certainty to follow Christ and to join in His mission.*NAB
