Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño yesterday expressed his full support for all efforts of Negrenses to stop the illicit offshore magnetite mining incursions across the coastline of Negros Island.
Casino, who was in Bacolod City, also commended the Bangay Margaha, the alliance of farmers, peasants and fishermen that is waging the campaign against magnetite mining in Negros.
“We do not want the coastal areas from Pontevedra to Manapla and the whole province to be ravaged by mining operations that will not benefit the country and the local communities in the long term,” Casiño said.

‘Acropolis’ launching
Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. and Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez(Neg. Occ., 3rd District)yesterday led the inauguration and ribbon cutting of the Acropolis Gardens of Teresa Development Corp. in Bacolod City.
Acropolis Gardens is the new memorialization and cremation facility of TED that offers high-end quality services at an affordable cost.
Benitez, who was the guest of honor, lauded Ramon Lacson, the chief executive officer of TDC, for developing something unique in this industry, adding that it is probably the first of its kind in Negros Occidental and in the country.
No claims backlog
in WV – PhilHealth
There is no claims backlog at PhilHealth in Western Visayas, Dennis Mas, PhilHealth regional vice president, said yesterday.
PhilHealth 6 paid P3,156,312,235.51 to health care providers, of which P1.8 billion went to private hospitals, in 2011, he said.
He also said that of the P1.6 billion paid from January 2012 to the present, more than P871 million was made to private hospitals as benefit payment for services rendered to PhilHealth members and dependents.
