CAFGU, 2 others
survive ambush

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion condemned yesterday the attempt of suspected New People’s Army assassins to kill a member of the Special Cafgu Active Auxiliary and his two civilian companions in Brgy. Milagrosa, Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental.

Lt. Col. Marion Sison, 79th IB commander, said that SCAA member Macbeth Villarosa, 31, and his companions were on their way home from harvesting peanuts, when they were waylaid and simultaneously fired upon by three suspected rebels, who were armed with.45 caliber pistols.

The three who were not hit, managed to escape, and reported the incident to the Santa Catalina Police Station, Sison added.

Villarosa identified one of the three suspects as Aming Dacal-Dacal, a member of the NPA.

Sison described the attempt to kill an unarmed government militiaman and two civilians as a desperate move to project that the NPA is still a force to be reckoned with.

He said the NPA in Negros Oriental is bent on hitting “soft targets” or those who have no means of defending themselves.

“It is a clear manifestation of the rebels propensity for violence and utter disregard and disrespect for humanitarian law,” Sison added.*GPB
