A big third quarter performance from Paolo Diaz insured Akasya Grill’s victory against TJ Construction, as the squad claimed its fifth win in seven outings of the 1st PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University gym in Bacolod City, Wednesday night.
Coming out strong in the first three quarters, Akasya had its biggest lead in the third canto as Paolo Diaz fired 12 points to anchor the team’s 77-53 lead.
Setting the tone for another Akasya win was Janray Pepino, who hit 10 points in the first quarter, as Mark Velez added six for a 20-18 Akasya lead, while Ramonito Gazan scored 11 points for TJ.
Without letup, Akasya continued its offensive attack in the second quarter as Matthew Yap scored seven points, while 6’7 center Mark Kong and JC Sobrevega had six points each. Mark Reyes and Ricky Gillera tried to provide a spark for TJ with five points apiece.
The third quarter explosion from Akasya resulted to a 36-17 run as Diaz was backed up by Japhet Cua, who accounted for eight points, while Antiporda and Paolo Cuenca chipped in seven points each. Boboy Berbueda gave TJ nine points to keep their hopes alive.
TJ outscored Akasya in the fourth quarter, 25-19, but it was not enough to reverse the outcome of the ballgame as Akasya was well on its way in securing its fifth victory, while TJ absorbed its third defeat after six games.
Diaz and Pepino scored led Askasya with 12 points each, Antiporda had 11, Kong 9, Sobrevega and Cua with 8, Cuenca with 7 and Velez with 6 points.
Gazan led TJ scorers with 15 points as Bebueda shared 13, Chico Ranier with 11, Esstto Garcia with 10, and Mitchel Ajejandro with 7 points.
Meanwhile, Watchmen Daily Journal posted its second win after after Angels Burger failed to show up during their scheduled match-up play.*NAB
