Condura paces BUS G tourney

Living up to its billing as the team to beat in the tournament, powerhouse Condura beat Syntax, 77-70, to remain as the only unbeaten squad in the Sharp-Basketball Unified Sports Group Invitational Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University gym in Bacolod City, recently.

The Ref Makers stopped Syntax on its track as Homesite Basketball Organization stunned Panasonic, 84-81, for its first win after two close games against Syntax and Condura.

Also posting a win was BACIWA as the they prevailed over Melfern/San Dionisio, 73-59, with Sammy Belangel scoring 18 points and Arnulfo Iligan contributing 16 points.

Gerson Sipe and Mayo Salazar delivered 10 points each as the Water Dealers never relinquished the lead after taking the half, 34-28.

Rene Verde and Jose Cadagat drilled in 14 points each for Melfern/SD but the rest could not score higher than 9 points.

HBO finished strong with Lanky Bantong hitting 18 points, Amit Teruel and Francis Occida with 14 each, and Reynaldo Celodino tallied 11 points.

Unable to reverse the outcome after leading most of the time, Panasonic failed to convert a basket in the dying seconds to compound its woes.

Toto Fuentebella poured in 20 markers, Rey de Guzman had 16, Hermi Derwil 15 and Biboy Java 11 for the TV Makers, who now carries a 2-1 win-loss card like Syntax. HBO and BACIWA are 1-2 and Melfern/SD still winless after three games.

Condura's big men Bernie Chan and Bert Celiz combined for 27 points while guards Digol Benedicto and Fclipe Tumamot hit from all angles for 32 points. Arnel Tornilla waxed hot with 20 points and Dagol Flores added 12 for a losing cause.

Games on Sunday will start at 1 p.m. with BACIWA going up against Syntax while HBO faces Melfern/ San Dionisio and Condura will shoot for its fourth win versus Panasonic.

Tournament format, says Commissioner Bing Soyao, is a single round robin elimination, crossover semis and knockout final.*NAB
