A 60-year-old fisherman, wanted for allegedly raping his 1-year-old granddaughter, was apprehended by Task Force Manhunt members at his house in Bacolod City at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Senior Insp. Charles Gever, Warrant and Subpoena Section head, said the suspect, whose name he withheld, was nabbed on the strength of an arrest warrant for rape issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Anita Guanzon-Chua, who set his bail at P180,000.
The police said the charges were filed by the suspect’s estranged wife, who claimed he had molested the daughter of his 24-year-old son.
A neighbor of the suspect also said she saw him through the window of his house raping his granddaughter about two months ago.
The police added the child’s parents were at work when the alleged rape happened.
The suspect, when interviewed by the DAILY STAR yesterday, vehemently denied the accusation, and said the allegations are impossible.
He said the charges are malicious as his wife has an axe to grind against him since they separated five years ago.*APN back
