Officers from the National Food Authority in Manila will be in Bacolod City tomorrow to validate programs implemented under the United Nations Children's Fund, Cynthia Luz Chua, NFA-Negros senior grains operations officer, said yesterday.
Chua said the delegation is composed of Gloria Rigos and Ma. Alicia Fadera, representatives and evaluators of the NFA central office and regional officers Cashmere Gemarino and Antonio Mendoza.
NFA-Negros received P73,000 from UNICEF to fund feeding programs and the campaign for the consumption of I-Rice or Iron Fortified Rice, she said.
They are hosting feeding programs in Banago 1 and 2 elementary schools in Bacolod City that started last week and end tomorrow. The project is benefitting 1,200 school children using the I-Rice, Chua said.
She said the place is identified by the Department of Social Welfare and Development as a highly depressed barangay situated in the coastal area where there is high number of malnourished kids.
NFA is intensifying its campaign on I-Rice to help address the problems of school children suffering from iron deficiency anemia and malnourishment, Chua said.
It will also convince parents to buy I-Rice instead of commercial rice, she added.
Nutritional components of I-Rice improve body activities and resistance, prevents infection, control anemia, and keep the mind alert, especially among school children, and it is sold at P27 per kilo.*LTG
