The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental has dispersed 17,472 farm animals in six months to 31 local government units through the Negros First Dispersal Program of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.

Catheryn Narez, provincial livestock coordinator, said the dispersal is not a dole-out project because the beneficiaries have to return to the province the number of animals dispersed to them after breeding, which will be the basis for them to be given certificates of ownership.

PVO distributed 672 piglets, 211 gilts, 16, 505 kabir chicks, 80 sheep, and five carabaos to identified and qualified beneficiaries of LGUs.

They were also given training on animal management and breeding to help them grow the animals, Narez added.

The recipients include rebel returnees, pastors, farmers, tricycle drivers, teachers, fisherfolks, non-government organizations, and other qualified beneficiaries, she also said.

PVO also gave out 10 egg machines to pastors, rebel returnees, and farmers. The egg machine comes with 48 heads of ready-to-lay pullets with waterer, feeder, and 25 kilos of feeds, Narez said.

Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena yesterday said the dispersal has strengthened livestock production in the province at the local level, adding that they have provided the demand for livestock in their respective communities.

He also said beneficiaries are provided with free trainings to equip them with the right knowledge and skills in growing farm animals to prevent mortality.

Meanwhile, 2,660 kabir chicks and piglets will be turned over to recipients from Bago City, the towns of Candoni, Hinobaan, and Toboso, and to the members of Sentrong Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators-Negros next week. *LTG
