P2.5M for fiesta
BY RENE GENOVE

The Tanjay City government allocated P2.5 million for its month-long grand fiesta celebration this month with the theme “Malambuong Tanjayanon Kanunay Mapasalamato”.

Fiesta director Arnel Vibar said the event will take place on July 25 but it is traditionally celebrated for the whole of July in honor of patron saint St. James the Greater.

Activities lined-up for the celebration include the Miss Tanjay beauty pageant, sugbaanay sa parke, little Mister and Miss Tanjay City, Senior Citizen’s Night, well baby and cooking contest, gay basketball, dakpanay ug baktin, sports competition, civic parade, live band and a concelebrated mass.

The highlight of the feast is the commemoration of the Saulog Festival on July 24, to be participated in by eight cluster-barangays with a flurry of colors and rhythmic drum beats parading around the city.

Vibar said the fiesta committee invited Philippine Tourism Authority general manager Mark Lapid and Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo to attend the Saulog Festival competition.

The committee also called for the cooperation and support of all Tanjayanons to ensure the successful holding of this year’s fiesta celebration.*RG
