The Provincial Council for Women assembly and elections were held recently at the Montelibano Hall of the Sweet City Captel in Bacolod City, its press release said.

The PCW, composed of the presidents or chairpersons of local women councils and sectoral leaders from the towns and cities of Negros Occidental, elected Marie June Pavillar-Castro, Marjorie Layumas, Cleovel Villanueva, Marilou Aguirre, Melinda Aguilar, Rudica Mangao, Rosalinda Tuvilla and Andrea Lizares-Si as members of the board for 2012 to 2014.

Elected through district and sectoral caucuses were Freda Fabroz, Wenonah Martyr, Cecilia Tolosa, Alore Tambanillo, Mary Eden Ligason, Nenita Hernando and Dionela Flores-Madrona.

The 15 board members will elect along themselves the officers and directors of the PWC in a meeting next month, the press release also said.

The local women’s councils of Talisay City, Cauayan, Manapla, La Castellana, Hinoba-an, Sipalay, Ilog, Sagay, Calatrava and the Indigenous Peoples sector also reported on their programs and activities as well as gender and development practices.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Melvin Ibañez of the fifth district, who was guest speaker during the event, urged members of PCW to be the partners of the province in its various health programs, especially the foreign-assisted medical missions scheduled to be conducted in Negros Occidental.

The PWC, meanwhile, decided to move its raffle draw from July 5 to Dec. 12, when the 18 days of activism against gender violence will culminate, to raise more funds for its projects.

Local women’s councils are urged to remit their tickets and payments to PCW every end of the month even as the assembly has set the deadline on Nov. 25, during the observance of the International Day of Actions Against Violence Against Women, the press release added.*
