4 face frustrated murder raps
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Charges for frustrated murder in relation to child abuse will be filed before the Negros Occidental Provincial Prosecutors Office against four men tomorrow for the ambush of a Muslim family in Isabela town last week, that resulted to the serious wounding of a 1-year-old girl.

Charges will be filed against Jovic and Sonny Espares, relatives of the victims, and two other unidentified men, Police Officer 2 Roberto Ballon, case investigator, said yesterday.

Ballon said the victim, Naira Queen Sararaña, is still fighting for her life at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center in Bacolod City although her condition is getting better.

He said they were able to establish the fact that the ambush could be related to a land dispute between Espares and Nathaniel and Melody Sararaña, the victim’s parents.

Before the ambush, the Espares complained that the Sararañas couple ordered the cutting of banana trees at the disputed land, Ballon said.

Melody earlier claimed she saw her uncles Sonny and Jovic Espares among the four men who ambushed them while they were on board a tricycle.

Nathaniel and his niece, Mae-Inn Papa, 4, who were on board the tricycle were also injured, while Melody and nephews Jordan and Rommel Papa survived the slay attempt, police records show.*APN
