Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Laura Vicuña Foundation's "Children of the Canes III: A National Conference for the Protection and Development of Children in the Sugar Industry" at L'Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City Friday.
Robredo will speak about harnessing the active participation of the local government in the promotion and direct involvement in the protection and development of children, Sr. Maria Victoria Sta. Ana, LVF executive director, said yesterday.
This two-day event that starts Thursday afternoon will be venue to engage the participants in a public conversation to redefine social responsibility in sugarcane growing communities and map-out what the planters, local government units, workers, media, non government organizations, civil society and the youth can do together for the protection and development of children of the canes, she said.
Held in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government, LVF will be gathering "Champions of Children" from the national government agencies, regional and local government units, and various civil society groups to intensify grassroots participation in building a culture of social protection for children, Sta. Ana added
The opening program is set at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with Sta. Ana giving an overview of the conference.
A battery of speakers at the conference include Sugar Regulatory Administration chief Ma. Regina Martin Bautista, and representations of various government agencies and non government organizations.*CPG back
