Police: Couple killed in
hit-and-run mishap

A couple was killed in what police believed was a hit-and-run incident Tuesday morning at the national highway in Barangay Boloc-boloc, Sibulan town, Negros Oriental.

The police identified the fatalities as Elias Lara Liman, 45, who was declared dead on arrival at the Silliman University Medical Center; and his wife, Thelma, 40, who succumbed while being treated for injuries sustained.

The couple left behind three children, aged 12, 11, and 3 years old, the police said.

NORECO 2 assures delivery
of concrete poles from China

The Negros Oriental Electric 2 Cooperative assured yesterday that the China supplier contracted to deliver millions of pesos worth of concrete poles will make true its promise by the third quarter of 2012.

Acting NORECO 2 general manager Dionefred Macahig gave the assurance, adding that SUMAI, the company based in mainland China that landed the contract to supply 5,000 concrete poles to the power coop, is expected deliver the remaining 4,774 poles by first week of August this year, or more than 12 months since the first batch of 226 poles were transported on July 9, 2011.

The transaction and contract with SUMAI, through a commodity loan, was sealed in the previous NORECO 2 administration of Engr. Ephraim Taclob, Macahig said.

Man shot dead in Bayawan

A resident of Barangay Dawis, Bayawan City in Negros Oriental, was fatally shot for still unknown reason at about 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The police said that Victor Pagador, 38, of Sitio Baigan in Dawis was talking to his wife at their house when an unidentified suspect barged inside and shot him several times using a .45 caliber revolver.

Pagador died on the spot, the police said. The report did not say whether or not the victim’s wife was injured.
