Toyota poised to clinch No. 1
spot, q’finals seat

With only seven playing days to go in the eliminations, frontrunner Toyota-Bacolod stays unbeaten as it flattened Angels Burger, 93-66, to claim its sixth win Tuesday night in the PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University gym.

With its 6-0 win-loss card, Toyota-Bacolod strengthens its grip on the No. 1 spot in the team standings, virtually assuring the team a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals. Tournament organizers said the elimination round will end on July 23.

In the game against the Angels, Toyota took an early 26-14 lead in the first quarter with Kempee Lagrason hitting 10 points, while Henry Subebe and Philip Abong combined for 11 points. Paolo Mapili and Jerry Delgado tried to brighten things up for the Angels with four points each.

Toyota remained ahead in the second quarter with another 26-point output as Jack Tumayan scored eight points while Allan Jaena and Antoni Espinos delivered seven points each as the squad posted a 52-38 advantage at halftime.

Without letup, Toyota continued its offensive attack in the third quarter to register its biggest lead at 25 points. They also tightened their defense on Angels’ gunners by limiting their output to eight points.

In the final quarter, Vince Lacson scored eight points and Abong added six more points to his credit as Toyota-Bacolod outscored Angels, 22-20.

Tumayan and Abong shared top honors for Toyota with 15 points each, while Lacson finished with 14 points, Espinos added 13, Lagrason hit 12, Subebe chipped in 8, Jaena tallied 7 points.

Donesa anchored Angels Burger with 16 points, while Repillo contributed 12, Jayson Pardan scored 10, Navarro with 8 points and Mapeli with 6 points.*NAB
