Fire hits three city houses
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Embers left unattended caused a fire that destroyed three houses in Brgy. Alijis in Bacolod City, at dawn yesterday.

Bacolod City Fire Marshal, Chief Insp. Pamela Rojane Candido, said they received a call from a concerned citizen at about 1:10 a.m., who informed them that several houses in Purok San Jose, Brgy. Alijis, were on fire.

Six fire trucks of the BFP were dispatched to the area and were assisted by the Amity and the Chinese Chamber volunteer fire brigades, she said.

Firefighters put the fire out at about 1:43 a.m. with no one reported injured. Also hit by the fire were a videoke machine, three motorcycles, other personal properties and P200,000 in cash, Candido said.

Investigation conducted by Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva showed that the fire started from the kitchen of the house of Efepanio and Carmela Seniar, which has a videoke bar and an auto-mechanic shop.

Candido said that since the house of the Seniars is made of mixed materials, fire easily spread to the nearby residences of Willie Ricarte and Jomer Arcenas.

The fire victims claimed that their houses could have been saved only if the firefighters came on time, but Candido said they received the fire call late.

They have five to seven minutes response time and it is their orientation to immediately attend to fire incidents when they receive a call, Candido added.*APN
