Bacolod Fire Marshal Insp. Pamela Rojane Candido has been transferred to Bago City after six years of service to Bacoleños.
Her transfer is part of a nationwide revamp of city fire marshals by the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Candido's transfer took effect July 11. She will be replaced by Chief Insp. Bartolome Biliran, from Antique, who is also a nurse by profession like her.
But Mayor Evelio Leonardia has requested the Department of Interior and Local Government that Candido be retained in Bacolod.
In his letter to DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo dated June 29, Leonardia said “As the city is geared towards continued development under my administration, I consider the vital role of Candido in the realization of our many endeavors at present and in the future.”
He said Candido has served the Bacolod Fire Station for most of his incumbency as mayor and that he has noted her dedication to public service and active involvement in activities that bring government closer to the people.
Leonardia said that Candido worked for additional sub-fire stations in barangays Pahanocoy and Granada and had been instrumental in the acquisition of two new fire trucks for the city.
Aside from her exemplary performance as fire marshal, she remained committed to promoting civic works by implementing activities in collaboration with private companies to fulfill the “Private-Public Partnership” thrust of the Democratic Local Governance in Southeast Asia, he said.
Former Vice Mayor Ramiro Garcia said Candido's transfer has nothing to do with the implementation of the sprinkler system in Bacolod.
“This was never discussed privately or publicly. What I only brought up was the issue, not personalities,” he said.
Candido thanked Bacoleños for being fire-safety conscious and for their friendship, as well as the local government and the media for their support in the BFP's info drive on fire safety.
She also thanked private entities for their cooperation and help, and said she hopes that public service will be further enhanced by their civic-mindedness.
She said she considers her transfer to Bago City a job promotion and a new challenge.*CGS.
