Koreans still top
PHL tourist arrivals

Koreans continue to be the top visitors of the country with almost 400,000 arrivals in the first five months of 2012, Department of Tourism data show.

A total of 397,170 Korean tourists arrived in the country in the first five months this year, up 12.41 percent from the 353,307 during the same period last year.

DoT records also show that close to two million tourists visited the country from January to May this year with a growth of 13.05 percent.

In the first five months of the current year, the DoT recorded 1,819,781 tourist arrivals compared to the 1,609,651 arrivals for the same period in 2011.

January 2012 was recorded the most number of visitors at 411,064 and the highest increase of 17.54 percent.

Visitors from the United States posted the second biggest arrival with 298,355, up 5.26 percent from 283,422 arrivals last year.

Japanese nationals were in third place with 167,410 arrivals representing 7.11 percent increase compared to the 156,296 in 2011.

Fourth war the Chinese market with 138,466 arrivals, followed by Taiwan, which ranked fifth with 93,855 arrivals.

High yielding markets included Australia with 79,020 visitors; Singapore with 60,136 visitors; Canada with 58,868; United Kingdom with 50,327; and Hong Kong with 48,849.

The high growth markets included Russia with 42.18 percent growth; Germany with 14.43 percent; and Malaysia with 12.82 percent. *PNA
