Campaign on proper handling
of money bills, coins ongoing

BY RENE GENOVE

Former Finance Secretary Gary Teves said he is supportive of the campaign on the proper use and handling of bank notes and coins that was launched by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Dumaguete Branch recently.

Teves, former president and CEO of the Land Bank of the Philippines, said the proper handling of money will lengthen its lifespan and reduce the need to print more bills, which entails high production costs.

“Our new-generation Philippine bills are especially expensive to produce because of their security features. It would be wise to inform the public how they can take better care of their bills,” Teves said.

NegOr to award
GPAK 2012 winners

The Negros Oriental provincial government will award this year’s winners of the Gulayan sa Palaisdaan Alay sa Kabataan provincial evaluation on July 17 at Plaza Ma. Luisa Suites Inn, Dumaguete City, a government press release said.

The awarding rite will mark the 10th year that GPAK, a Galing Pook awardee, was implemented in Negros Oriental to improve food production in the province by allotting unused lots within school grounds for vegetable production and tilapia ponds.

Winners under the Gulayan category for the first district are the Tinaogan Elementary School in Bindoy, first; Gaboc Elementary School in Canlaon City, second; DVLM Elementary School in Vallehermoso, third; Lower Lumapao ES in Canlaon, fourth; and San Jose ES in La Libertad, fifth; with a special citation for San Jose ES in Manjuyod, the press release said.
