Four Bacolod Rotary clubs
to hold joint induction rites

Four local Rotary Clubs – Bacolod Marapara, Bacolod East, Bacolod West and Bacolod Central – will hold joint induction ceremonies for their officers, directors and new members at L'Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City, 7 p.m. July 19, a press release from the club said.

The theme for the Rotary Year 2012/13 is “Peace through Service”.

To be inducted as presidents are Michael Bantug for Bacolod Marapara, Miguel Sarabia - Bacolod East, Cosette Villaluz - Bacolod West, and Roberto Aguillon - Bacolod Central, the press release also said.

The inducting officer will be Rotary District Governor Rafael Jocson, while the guest of honor and speaker will be Rotarian Melito Salazar Jr., editor-in-chief of the Philippines Rotary magazine, the press release added.*

3,000 join tree-planting
in 3rd district

Around 3,000 volunteers joined the tree-planting activity in the third district of Negros Occidental Saturday that was spearheaded by the National Assembly of the Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association and the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, a press release said.

In Victorias City, mangrove seedlings were planted at the coastline of purok of Villa Miranda, Barangay VI-A, led by Vice Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca and barangay captain Jose Dignadice.

In E. B. Magalona, the activity was held at the E.B. Magalona Elementary School with the support of Mayor David Lacson and principal Angeles Verdeprado, with the acacia seedlings provided by the municipal environment office, the press release also said.

Barangay E. Lopez was the site in Silay City, with the event supported by Mayor Jose Montelbano and ABC president Joedith Gallego; while in Talisay City, Mayor Eric Saratan led the activity in the Dos Hermanas demo farm with the assistance of barangay captain Fernando Dolendo.

In Murcia, the activity was held at the grounds of the Lopez Jaena National High School, spearheaded by Mayor Andrew Montelibano and principal Nelly Gorrote.

“The protection and preservation of the environment is a priority, and we in the third district fully support the National Greening Program,” Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said in rallying the support of local government units and other community sectors to join the activity that was simultaneously conducted nationwide.

The NGP, contained in Executive Order 26 issued by President Noynoy Aquino, advocates that each Filipino plants 10 seedlings every year. The 2012 theme is “Alay ng Kapatiran sa Inang Kalikasan”, the press release added.*
