An arrest warrant for robbery-in-band has been reissued by the court against rebel leader Romeo Nanta, after he jumped bail, Col. Oscar Lactao, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, yesterday said.
Nanta, who was arrested in November last year in Cadiz City, was freed from detention in February, after he posted a P100,000 bail, for robbery-in-band charges, police records show.
The reissuance of the arrest warrant stemmed from Nanta’s failure to attend court hearings for the charges filed against him.
If he is rearrested, Lactao said that Nanta, regional commander of the NPA in Negros island, is expected to be denied bail.
Nanta was reported by the military to have rejoined his comrades following his release from jail.
Two other rebel leaders, identified as Hernando Llorente, “alias Ka Ador”, and his live-in partner, Faith Roseen Basergo, “alias Bea”, who were arrested in April in San Carlos City, also posted bail for robbery-in-band charges.
Llorente served as the commanding officer of the Sentro De Grabidad platoon of the Northern Negros Front, while Basergo used to be the NNF secretary, military records show.
Maj. Enrico Ileto, 3rd Infantry Division spokesman, said that Llorente and Basergo also rejoined the NPA.
Nanta was also linked by the military to the ambush-slay of three civilians in Toboso, and numerous violent incidents perpetrated by the NPA, like the burning of transloading stations of the Lopez Sugar Central and Victorias Milling Co. in Toboso, and the raid of the La Libertad Police Station in Negros Oriental.*GPB back
