Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Mayors Evelio Leonardia of Bacolod City, Jose Montelibano of Silay, Eric Saratan of Talisay, Manuel Torres of Bago, and Andrew Montelibano of Murcia will give their pledge of commitment today for bid of the province to host next year’s Palarong Pambansa.
The local officials will attend the conference called by the Department of Education regional office, headed by Western Visayas director Mildred Garay, to finalize the presentation that the province will submit to the 2013 Palaro hosting committee.
The government and the mayors will manifest their pledge of commitment to allow the DepEd to use the existing facilities in their area as venues and billeting center for the participants,Capitol sources said.
Earlier Marañon had expressed optimism that Negros Occidental will be successful in its bid to host next year’s Palaro as the province has existing facilities and experience in hosting multi-discipline national games, and even international tournaments.
He also said that work on the Paglaum Sports Complex, will be completed in time for the games.
In March, the province hosted the 2012 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet at the Panaad, and DepEd local officials said it was a preview of how the delegates from the provinces will be accommodated should Negros win the bid.
Marañon said the ongoing construction of the Provincial Cyber Center at the Paglaum Sports Complex will complement the plans of developing the football field and the volleyball and basketball courts at the site.
Aside from Negros Occidental, reports have circulated that Cebu City will also bid for the Palaro hosting task.
Cebu was this year’s host of the national PRISAA competition.*NAB
