Three injured in hit-and-run
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Three were injured in whatappeared to be hit-and-run incident at the boundary of kilometers 43 and 44 in Brgy. Recreo, Pontevedra town, Negros Occidental, at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

Police Officer 2 Judesses Catalogo identified those injured as Roy Vargas, 24, his younger brother Ronel, 19, and their cousin Marvil Mondejal of Brgy. Cambaog in Hinigaran town, Negros Occidental.

Mondeja and the younger Vargas were not hospitalized as their injuries were not serious, while Roy, who sustained head injuries and a fractured hand, is still confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Hospital, Catalogo said.

The driver of the Ford Fiera, identified as Harvey Lacson, 33, of Brgy. Tapi, Kabankalan City, and also a resident of Brgy. 35, Bacolod, left his vehicle somewhere in Murcia town, and surrendered to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group at about 3 a.m. yesterday, the police said.

Lacson told CIDG-Bacolod head, Chief Insp. Fernando Salvatierra, that he was forced to flee for his safety, as the bystanders who witnessed the accident were chasing him.

Investigation showed that the tricycle driven by Roy, with his brother and cousin as passengers, was heading north of the road when the vehicle of Lacson tried to overtake them.

The Ford sideswiped the rear portion of the tricycle, causing its passengers and driver to be thrown off the vehicle, the police added.*APN
