hasten land reform

BY CARLA GOMEZ

The Department of Agrarian Reform is launching today its “One-Stop Shop Caravan” that brings government personnel to the barangays to deliver services aimed at accelerating land distribution in Negros Occidental, Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio de los Reyes said yesterday.

Reyes will supervise the unveiling of DAR’s new project in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental, before potential and new agrarian reform beneficiaries.

De los Reyes said the “One-Stop Shop Caravan” is one of the new strategies conceptualized by DAR to comply with President Aquino’s commitment to complete the land acquisition and distribution (LAD) component of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program before his term expires in 2016.moremoremore

Also bidding for the Palaro is Dumaguete City, but Garay said she believes that Negros Occidental is more prepared and has the facilities in place for the hosting of the event.moremoremore

Bing opposes
corporatization of hospitals

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he is against the corporatization of government-owned hospitals because this will deprive the poor access to free hospital services.

Leonardia said he, together with Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño, are exploring the motive behind the move to privatize government-owned hospitals.

House Bill 6069, or an Act Creating the National Government Hospital Corporations, was authored by Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez Jr. and Rep. Alfredo Marañon III (Neg. Occ. 3rd District), who chairs the Committee on Health in the House.moremoremore
