Policewomen to be trained
for combat operations: SAF
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Women joining the police force will no longer be stuck at desk jobs, and are now being trained to be “warriors”, especially in the Special Action Force, an elite unit of the Philippine National Police.

Police Director Catalino Cuy, SAF director, yesterday said he has authorized his field commanders to include female SAF commandos in combat operations, a pilot project of PNP chief Nicanor Bartolome.

The SAF has its own all-female commando unit. Like their male counterparts, they are now deployed in forward positions, especially in Mindanao.

Marginalized groups, like parking attendants, shoe repairers, manicurists, massage and reflexologists, tempura and balut vendors in Dumaguete City have been organized under the Sectoral Desk Office, and will be enabled to help in the various programs of the local government.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said he wants marginal organizations to help in the anti-criminality campaign of the City, aside from maintaining the cleanliness in their areas.

He told the newly-formed group of parking attendants to immediately report to the police incidents of carnapping and to guard their ranks against lawless persons.

Fishermen get
P625,000 from DOLE

A group of fishermen in Amlan, Negros Oriental, received a P625,000 grant from the Department of Labor and Employment under its Integrated Livelihood Program Monday, a government press release said.

The Tandayag Fisherfolk Association, composed of 34 fishermen, received the check from Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz in turnover rites at the coastline of Brgy. Tandayag in the town.

Virgilio Aviso, head of the association, said they will use the money to purchase 25 motorized boats to boost their income as all members use paddle boats.
