Stabbed cop commended
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A policeman who was stabbed and injured when he arrested several clan members at the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Lagoon Park on July 1 received a special commendation from City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz Monday at the Bacolod City Police headquarters.

De la Paz said Police Officer 1 Ryan Lumogdang of the Public Safety Management Battalion assigned to Police Station 2 should be emulated by other policemen because he is dedicated to his job.

He is also recommending Lumogdang for the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting from the Police Regional Office-6.

Lumogdang and his friend, Mitchelle Santillan, 33, of Purok Mars in Brgy. Singcang Airport, were strolling at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon Park when they noticed a group of suspicious-looking individuals composed of five men and seven women, whom they later discovered to be members of the Dark Demon Society clan.

Lumogdang, who was off duty then, approached the group and introduced himself as a policeman, but they suddenly ganged up on him and on Santillan and stabbed them. Luckily, the knife hit Lumogdang’s dog tag instead, which apparently saved his life, De la Paz said.

Lumogdang was able to shoot one of the suspects, identified as Edsel Esteban, 32, of Purok Kametal, Barangay Mandalagan, who sustained a gunshot wound in his right foot.

The clan leader identified as Joemarie Alberto, 22, of Brgy. Gahit, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, was arrested by Station 1 policemen at the Bacolod downtown area in a follow-up operation.

Charges for direct assault upon an agent of a person in authority and frustrated homicide were filed against Alberto.*APN
