Car burglars have  launched successive operations in the past weeks as a fund-raising activity to save the life of their leader’s son, who is now in the hospital being treated for hydrocephalus, City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said yesterday.

De la Paz said the group led by Ian Dionson, 32, of Purok Sigay in Brgy. 2, Bacolod who was apprehended on Sunday at an alleged drug den, admitted that they are behind the series of car burglaries as he needs money for the operation of his son.

Dionson, at the same time, admitted that their group is behind hold-up incidents and break-ins at the houses in several areas of Bacolod for the past weeks, De la Paz also said.

In fact, Station 2 policemen were able to secure a copy of a video captured by a closed-circuit television camera at one of the houses that Dionson’s group tried to rob last month, and showed it to the media yesterday.

In the 3 minute-8 second video, three men, one of them identified to be Dionson climbed the concrete fence of the house but failed to carry out their plan as the owner’s dog was barking.

Records from the Bacolod City Police also showed that more than 10 vehicles were burglarized in the city in the past weeks, the latest of which is the incident Sunday involving the burglary of the car owned by a policeman,  parked at the downtown area where a P40,000 worth of laptop computer and other items were stolen.

De la Paz said  they  expect  that the crime incidents in Bacolod will rise especially  because August,  which is considered a lean month, is approaching.

Aside from the group of Dionson, BCPO intelligence report also showed that the other car burglary group operating in Bacolod is led by Ian Agravante, 30, of Brgy. Concepcion in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, who was apprehended by station 1 policemen in Brgy. 2, Sunday after he allegedly burglarized a Pajero vehicle.

The BCPO is also on the look-out for other car burglary group based outside Bacolod.*APN
