IN DUMAGUETE
P590,000 worth of ‘shabu'
seized from 2 in buy-bust
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

More than half a million pesos worth of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia were seized and a suspected big-time drug pusher and runner were arrested in twin buy-bust operations Tuesday in Barangay Northern Junob, Dumaguete City.

Insp. Janelito Marquez, head of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, identified the suspects as May Flor Buncalan Saraña, “alias Darlene”, 24, of Northern Junob; and Neil Pinili Dejos, 22, of Colon Street Extension, in Taclobo, both in Dumaguete.

Seized from the suspects were 10 big transparent plastic sachets, or “bolto”, of suspected shabu that weighed a total of 50 grams and worth P590,000 based on the Dangerous Drugs Board market value, Marquez added.

He said the seizure was, so far, the biggest illegal drugs haul in Negros Oriental this year.

Investigation showed that Dejos was the first to be arrested by joint operatives of the PAIDSOTG, the National Bureau of Investigation, led by its provincial head Dominador Cimafranca, and the PNP Special Operations Group in a buy-bust operation Sunday.

Dejos was nabbed after he handed seven plastic sachets of suspected shabu to a police poseur buyer, Marquez said. An entrapment operation was then set up for Saraña after Dejos named her as his supplier, the police said.

Marquez tagged Saraña as the “trusted dealer” of illegal drugs in the city, with her source earlier identified as a drug lord now incarcerated at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, while Dejos is her runner.

“Drug operations are being carried out remotely, more likely through transactions over the mobile phone and transported via sea, air and land,” Marquez said.

He said Saraña had been under close surveillance for several months. Last year, undercover agents had transacted with her for 100 grams of shabu at a local hotel but the deal was not consummated as policemen could not produce the money for the buy bust, Marquez added.

Criminal charges for violation of Section 5 or sale of prohibited drugs in relation to Section 26 or conspiracy of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act were filed yesterday against the two suspects, who are detained at the lockup cell of the Dumaguete City PNP.*JFP
