Atlantic turns back JK
in Fil-Sino basketball tilt

Atlantic Auto Parts survived a fourth quarter rally from Johann Kendrick to get away with a 96-83 win and share leadership honors with Joshbianc Motors at 2-0 in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 2nd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament, Monday night, at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Facing a 15-point deficit going into the payoff quarter, Johann Kendrick's gunners Biboy Yap and Kirell Brahndon Montalbo conspired to cut the lead to seven points, but Atantic's John Montemayor and Johnnyson Yu knocked in 10 points each to fend off the rally.

JK made a last ditch effort anew as they drew closer to five points, but Montalbo was forced to sit out the rest of the game after suffering from a cramp.

Ricky Chua and Yap valiantly tried to carry the scoring load for JK, but Johnnyson Yu steered Atlantic out of trouble with 10 straight points.

Earlier, Montemayor scored 14 points in the first quarter, while Brian Coo backed him up with putbacks as Atlantic coasted to a 26-20 lead.

Failing to mark deadsot Michael Ang, JK paid dearly for the lapse as he nailed three treys for 15 points while teammate Marc Lo added seven points as Atlantic kept a 54-43 lead at the break.

Atlantic again outscored JK in the third quarter as they extended the lead to 73-58 behind Marc Lo's nine points.

Montemayor paced Atlantic with 24 points, Ang added 18, Marc Lo scored 16, and Yu made 12 points.

Montalbo delivered a game-high 26 points, Yap picked up 13 points, Ritchie Militante and Chua scored 12 points each.

Meanwhile, Joshbianc kept pace with Atlantic by defeating Guanzon Dental Clinic, 96-87.

Joshbianc took the half, 47-43, as Richard Co nailed three triples for 11 points, while Joshua Co and Arnold Laureño combined for 18 points, Christopher Mahinay finished with 15 points, all scored in the second quarter for Guanzon.

Joshbianc had a double digit cushion, 69- 57, at the end of the third quarter delivered as Joshua Co knocked in eight points and Jerky Ong with five points.

With Dr. Emil Guanzon, Jose Miguel Montinola and Matthew Yap at the firing end, Guanzon cut the lead to a single digit, but the offensive option of the Guanzon was limited from the outside as the defense of Joshbianc held on backed by Richard Co and Laureño's six points each to pull off the victory.

Son and father tandem of Joshua and Richard Co led the scoring for Joshbianc with the younger Joshua making 21 points while Richard had 17 points.

Laureño tallied with 14 points, Vincent Javelosa scored 10, and Jeremy Coo hit 9 points.

Guanzon finished with 23 points, Montinola and Chibon Uy scored 11 points each, and Yap had 9 points.

In last Friday's game, Orix Metro came from behind to stun Campuestohan Highland Resort, 85-82.

Silent in the first three quarters, Robbie Jalando-on sizzled with 22 points in the payoff period for Orix as the squad overcame a 66-54 deficit at the end of third quarter.

Also contributing to the win were Jan Jan Guevarra with 15 points, Kenderson Hao with 12 points, and Ardian Ong, 8 points.

Yan Yan Dy paced the losers with 28 points, Ralph Richard Tan sunk 12, RB Chua delivered 9 points, and Badong Eufre with 8 points.*with a report from Stephen Tan
