One of the two suspects who robbed a collector of a lending firm in Brgy. Payao, Binalbagan, yesterday was arrested by the police in a pursuit operation, Senior Inspector Albert Sy said.
Sy, who is the Binalbagan police chief, identified the suspect as Jay Martinico,25.
Initial investigations by the Binalbagan police showed that Martinico and his companion who is at-large robbed John Rey Tagulalac, a collector of Asset Credit and Loans Inc., at knife-point at about 3 p.m. yesterday in Sitio Juaning, Brgy. Payao, Binalbagan.
Tagulalac, 25, was divested of his bag containing several checks and a cellular phone, by the two suspects, who fled immediately.
Binalbagan police who responded to the incident, arrested Martinico, one of the suspects who was hiding inside a sugarcane field in the place.
Sy said a 13-inch stainless knife and the bag of the victim, were recovered from Martinico, but his 16-year-old companion, whose identity is being withheld by the police, managed to escape.
Meanwhile, policemen also arrested a certain Jerry Pilapil in Brgy. 1 poblacion, Sagay City, for violation of RA 9287, also known as the amended law on illegal gambling.
Chief Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez, Sagay police chief, said the arrest of Pilapil yielded P150 in alleged cash bets and assorted illegal gambling paraphernalia.* GPB
