Lirazan now NOPPO OIC
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan said he assumed command of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office yesterday, as officer-in-charge, in compliance with the order of the Police Regional Office 6 in Iloilo City.

Lirazan, who spent almost half of his police career as intelligence officer in the PNP intelligence unit, is expected to serve as NOPPO officer-in-charge, until Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has selected the new provincial police director, from the list to be forwarded to him by Camp Crame.

The position vacated by Lirazan as director of the 6 th Regional Public Safety Battalion, which is vying for the national award as best RPSB unit in the country, is now temporarily being occupied by his deputy, Supt. Samuel Mina.

Lirazan said Supt. Remus Canieso, who served as the NOPPO caretaker for 10 days, will go back to his old position as the deputy provincial director for Administration.

Police records show that Lirazan is a member of the Philippine National Police Academy Class 1983.

Canieso, also a graduate of PNPA, is junior to Lirazan, Governor Alfredo Marañon had earlier said that he will recommend Canieso as the replacement for Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan as provincial police director of Negros Occidental.

Canieso is also due for promotion to senior superintendent this year, which is a requirement for the position of provincial police director.

It was learned yesterday that the new assignment of Lirazan as NOPPO officer-in-charge took effect July 10. On the same date, Guisihan was also designated as the PRO6 chief of the directorial staff.

The assumption of Lirazan as NOPPO officer-in-charge was reported to have been held in abeyance by Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director of Western Visayas, as he was preparing for the field evaluation and validation of the 6 th RPSB by Camp Crame inspector, being a candidate for the national award as best RPSB unit in country, for the first time in its history.

Aside from the 6 th RPSB, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, BCPO director, Police Regional Office 6 and its Children and Women Protection Desk, as well as the Iloilo PNP Public Safety Company, are also vying for national awards.

Police Director Catalino Cuy, head of the Camp Crame validation team, said being included in the top 3 among 16 candidates, was already a big accomplishment.

Cuy also said that the 6 th RPSB possesses good facilities for training, and also acknowledged the all-out support extended by the local government units and the community to the police unit.*GPB
