Sun Cell hopes to tie
with Toyota at No. 1

Games Today

7 p.m. Toyota vs. Sun Cellular
8:30 p.m. Ink Cream vs. Bad Boys

Sun Cellular might just pull off another surprise as it clashes against tournament leader Toyota-Bacolod tonight in the first game of the PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City.

With both teams playing its last game in the eliminations, a win by Sun will allow the squad to share the No. 1 spot with Toyota as it will clinch its seventh win in the tournament with two losses.

Toyota, which absorbed its first defeat at the hands of cellar dweller the Bad Boys, notched its seventh victory Friday night by default after TJ Construction failed to show-up.

Ink Cream, meanwhile, thwarted Boston Finance’s effort to grab the No. 2 spot in the team standings with a 104-101 win, in a high-scoring game.

The team will face the Bad Boys in tonight’s second game, hoping to secure the last quarterfinals seat.

In the game against Boston, Luigi Herrera exploded for Ink Cream with 16 points in the second quarter to put his team on top after a 47-all halftime deadlock.

With Boston’s defense focused on Herrera in the fourth period, Ink Cream looked for other scoring options and found Kim Arnaiz who responded with nine points, while Ligaria and Jay Agulan combined for 10 points to give Ink Cream an 11-point lead.

Boston tried to reverse the outcome of the ballgame with 34 points in the fourth quarter as Jerald Abrot scored 12 points and Yan Dy with 11, but Ink Cream managed to hold on to the lead to get away with a three-point win.*NAB
