MRT Gentech beats Orix in
Fil-Sino basketball tilt

Oliver Manaloto converted a free throw with 3.1 seconds in overtime to lift MRT Gentech Inc. 87-86, against Orix Metro, while Campuestohan Highland Resort won by forfeiture over Campuestohan Highland Resort in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 2nd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Manaloto, who only scored four points in regulation, found his mark in the extra period as he delivered six points, including the game-winning free throw.

He led the balanced offensive of MRT in the extra period to counter the three triples unleashed by Robbie Jalando-on of Orix.

Sun Cell hopes to tie
with Toyota at No. 1

Sun Cellular might just pull off another surprise as it clashes against tournament leader Toyota-Bacolod tonight in the first game of the PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City.

With both teams playing its last game in the eliminations, a win by Sun will allow the squad to share the No. 1 spot with Toyota as it will clinch its seventh win in the tournament with two losses.

Toyota, which absorbed its first defeat at the hands of cellar dweller the Bad Boys, notched its seventh victory Friday night by default after TJ Construction failed to show-up.

Pre-NOPSSCEA basketball
set Aug.10-12 at WNU gym

To gauge the strength of this year’s collegiate basketball teams, a pre-NOPSSCEA tournament will be held on Aug. 10 to 12, featuring defending champion West Negros University, University of St. La Salle, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod.

Tournament commissioner Pastor Renato Bravo said they hope to make the games as a fund-raising event for the regular NOPSSCEA basketball tournament starting August 31.

Bravo was appointed as tournament manager for basketball in both college and high school divisions, while Elvis Atinado supervises the games in elementary.
