Charles Kevin Tan, first runner-up in the nationwide search for the “Total OPM Performer”, will hold a free concert at 7 p.m. tomorrow, at the Silay City covered court, a press release from the city said.

Tan, who won P500,000 in cash prize and performance contracts during the grand finals night at the PAGCOR Grand Theater in Paranaque, recently will render his versions of popular foreign songs and OPM classics in the concert titled “Salamat Silay”.

These are “Kahit Maputi na Ang Buhok Ko”, “Dahil Sa ‘Yo”, “Fallin”, “Simply Jessie”, “Close To You”, “Til There Was You”, “When I Fall In Love” and “Walang Hanggan” as well as Ilonggo original compositions like “Babayeng Negrosanon” and “Panaad Ko”, the press release also said.

Tan also interpreted the entry of Silay in the pop songwriting competition entitled ‘Panaad Ko’, written by Armin Paredes, that was adjudged champion in the 18th Panaad sa Negros last year, the press release added.*

The 2012 MassKara Festival streetdance schools category will be conducted on October 20, and the barangay category on October 21; while the electric MassKara performing float competitions will be from October 19 and 20, a press release from organizers said yesterday.

Streetdance committee chair Rudy Reveche said in yesterday’s orientation attended by representatives from about 27 barangays at the BAYS Center in Bacolod, that deadline for submission of entry forms for the streetdance and electric MassKara competitions is August 6 at 5:30 p.m.

Entries will be raffled off on August 7 to determine the 15 participating groups for the barangay streetdance, and the 10 groups for electric MassKara, he added in the press release.

Reveche also said that last year’s top 10 winners in the barangay streetdance and top three winners in the electric Masskara are pre-qualified to join.

Meanwhile, festival director Eli Tajanlangit announced the launch of “MusiKara: The Search for the 2012 MassKara Festival Music” in partnership with ABS-CBN.

The competition is open to all bands that can perform an original dance music that could be used for the festival.
