Three alleged members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade, linked to the murder of Kabankalan Regional Trial Court Judge Henry Arles have been arrested by National Bureau of Investigation agents for illegal possession of firearms, NBI Bacolod head Ferdinand Lavin confirmed yesterday.

The three identified as Jessie Daguia, Alejandro Capunong and Eddie Fortunado, have asked to be placed under their protective custody and have been brought by the NBI to Manila for safekeeping, Lavin said.

Relatives of the three on Monday, and yesterday, sought the help of the Commission on Human Rights to determine their whereabouts.moremoremore

The 186 personnel of the Commission on Elections from Western Visayas, 53 of whom are from Negros Occidental, are back from registering voters in Sulu.

They returned on Sunday and are now preparing for the resumption of the registration of voters in Western Visayas on August 1, COMELEC Negros Occidental Provincial Supervisor Jessie Suarez said yesterday.

The WV team, along with COMELEC personnel from other parts of the country, were sent to the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao for the registration of voters there, with the old list having been purged. moremoremore

MANILA- Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. is now on the way to becoming a “Hall of Famer” after he was named again among the awardees in the 14th National Sandugo Awards for Outstanding Local Government Executives held at the Heritage Hotel here Monday night.

Seven other Negros Occidental mayors, Escalante City Mayor Melecio Yap, Bago City Mayor Ramon Torres, Cadiz Mayor Patrick Escalante, La Carlota City Mayor Juliet Marie Ferrer, Himamaylan Mayor Ernesto Agustin Bascon, Moises Padilla Mayor Francisco Nazareno and Binalbagan mayor-turned Rep. Alejandro Mirasol, were also among the awardees.

Ninety-nine barangay captains of Bago City, Binalbagan, Escalante City, Himamaylan City, Cadiz City, Hinobaan, Ilog, Kabankalan City, Isabela, La Carlota City, Sipalay City, Talisay City and from Victorias City, were also honored by DOH. moremoremore
