Shabu supply in Dumaguete
increasing: anti-drugs cop
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

An official of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group said yesterday there seems to be an increase in the availability of illegal drugs, particularly shabu, in Dumaguete City and other parts of Negros Oriental.

PAIDSOTG chief Insp. Janelito Marquez said this was confirmed by the arrest last week of a suspected big-time drug pusher and a runner, who yielded more than half a million pesos worth of suspected shabu.

Neil Pinili Dejos, 22, single, of Colon Street Extension in Taclobo, and May Flor Buncalan Saraña, “alias Darlene”, 24, single, of Northern Junob, all in Dumaguete, were arrested in buy-bust operations on July 15 and 17, respectively, in the city, by a joint team from the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation.

Three security guards are being investigated for the loss of 66 sacks of NFA rice stocked at the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center in Dumaguete City.

Provincial Administrator Arnel Francisco said Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo has ordered a thorough investigation on the suspected theft.

Initial investigation showed that three blue guards are assigned to the sports complex on an eight-hour shift, and one of them holds the key to the stock room.

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW & JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Department of Social Welfare and Development released Tuesday more than P21 million in core shelter and emergency shelter assistance to victims of tropical storm “Sendong” in the towns of Siaton and Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

Siaton Mayor Albert Ator donated 13,000 square meters of his own property where some of the 123 core shelter units will be constructed.

Thirty-four of the 123 will be constructed on a 7,000 square-meter lot in Barangay Siit, donated by Ator’s sister, Alona, and 89 on a 6,000 sq. m. property in Barangay San Jose.
