MANILA- Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. is now on the way to becoming a “Hall of Famer” after he was named again among the awardees in the 14th National Sandugo Awards for Outstanding Local Government Executives held at the Heritage Hotel here Monday night.

Seven other Negros Occidental mayors, Escalante City Mayor Melecio Yap, Bago City Mayor Ramon Torres, Cadiz Mayor Patrick Escalante, La Carlota City Mayor Juliet Marie Ferrer, Himamaylan Mayor Ernesto Agustin Bascon, Moises Padilla Mayor Francisco Nazareno and Binalbagan mayor-turned Rep. Alejandro Mirasol, were also among the awardees.

Ninety-nine barangay captains of Bago City, Binalbagan, Escalante City, Himamaylan City, Cadiz City, Hinobaan, Ilog, Kabankalan City, Isabela, La Carlota City, Sipalay City, Talisay City and from Victorias City, were also honored by DOH.

Of the 177 awardees, 101 came from Negros Occidental. However, only Marañon and the seven Negros mayors attended the awarding ceremony.

Provincial Health Officer Ernell Tumimbang, who accompanied Marañon, the Negros mayors and barangay captains in receiving their awards, said Marañon will be included in the list of the Hall of Fame, if he receives a similar award next year.

The National Sandugo Awards for Local Government Executives is an initiative of DOH to recognize local government executives who give their full support to the National Voluntary Blood Services Program. The awards aims to motivate local officials to spearhead and be personally involved and committed to the National Voluntary Blood Service Program.

Health Secretary Enrique Ona, who was among the guests of honor and speakers, said DOH is paying tribute to the “Pinoy Voluntary Blood Donor” as a true cornerstone of adequate and safe blood supply in the country.

Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, officer in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, was recently awarded the Regional Sandugo Award by Police Regional Office for his noteworthy bloodletting drive, while he was still the director of the 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion.

About 300 police personnel and their force multipliers, and students, trooped to Camp Alfredo Montalibano Sr. in Bacolod City, as a sign of support for the bloodletting drive of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

The activity was in line with the Police Community Relations Month observance of the Philippine National Police.*GPB
