Firm urging Cadiz officials
to support coal power plant

The Phil-Power Exploration and Development Corp. is requesting the officials of Cadiz City to endorse its plan to construct and operate a 12MW diesel and 50MV thermal coal power plant complex at the Cadiz City Port in Barangay Banquerohan.

Cadiz Mayor Patrick Escalante said the firm needs the endorsement of the Banquerohan barangay council before he and the Sangguniang Panlungsod can endorse it.

A public hearing in Banquerohan initially set Friday has been postponed to next week, Escalante said.

James Molina, Phil-Power president and chief executive officer, said their plan is to have the 12MW diesel plant operational by April 2013 and the thermal coal power plant by December 2014.

This power plant complex project will ensure stable power supply for Cadiz City and Negros Occidental, he said.

“All updated and modern technology on air emission and water discharge pollution control and mitigating measures will be implemented and operated in accordance with the stringent standards of a power plant complex and also in compliance with the standards set forth by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to protect the surrounding communities,” Molina added.*CPG
