MRT Gentech posts 3rd win
in Fil-Sino basketball tourney

Rey Pandoro finished with 25 points to lead MRT Gentech past Campuestohan Highland Resort, 110-105, while Fyr Fyter Mktg. held off Orix Metro, 85-79, in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 2nd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Playing a balanced offensive, MRT neutralized an explosive 43-point performance from Yan Yan Dy, who dropped 23 points in the first quarter for a 33-27 Campuestohan lead.

In the second quarter, MRT unleashed Tubby Villanueva, who scored 19 points, as the lead changed hands favoring MRT at the break, 60-53.

Extending the lead in the third quarter, Bol Manaloto picked up 11 points, while Pandoro and Tim Garrucho combined for 11 points for MRT.

Dy scored 20 points in the second half, 10 of them in the fourth quarter, while Ralph Richard Tan hit three triples to keep Campuestohan within striking distance. But the timely hits of Pandoro and a series of of free throw shots in the quarter carried MRT to its third straight victory in the tournament.

Manaloto finished with 16 points, Garrucho added 11, Chipeng Uy shot 9 points, and Simon Tan had 8 points.

Backstopping Dy were Badong Eufre with 23 points. Danny Boy Uy finished with 22, and Tan added 12 points.

In the second game, Fyr Fyter outscored Orix Metro in the half, 48-36, behind John Dustin Chua’s 13 points, while teammates Nico Lopingco had 10 rmarkers and Julius Teruel with eight points. Robbie Jalando-on and RJ Iligan combined for 17 points for Orix.

Flexing their muscles in the second half, Orix outplayed the Fyters, 43-37, as Jalando-on added nine more points, Jan Jan Guevarra shot seven, and Johann Villanueva made eight points, but it was not enough to overhaul the lead as Teruel and Jolly Castillo led a balanced output tallying eight points each.

Chua finished with 17 points for Fyr Fyter while Teruel added 16, Lopingco shot 13, Jolly Castillo scored 10 , Mark Binguan contributed 9 points, and Devin Villacruz had 8 points.

Jalando-on paced Orix with 17 points, Brian Tan , Villanueva and Iligan hit 12 points each, Dr. Chico Coruña with 8 points.*with a report from Stephen Tan
